Safety on the Water
Welcome!
Use the Safety on the Water app to plan and prepare for your water-baed activity:
- location, information and alerts for beaches, rivers and lakes in Ireland
- weather forecast
- tides and daylight
- activity-based safety checklists
- marine notices, weather buoy readings and much more.
Safety on the Water also includes Kid's Corner, packed with puzzles and challenges for children.

You can manage your profile directly within the Safety on the Water app. If you need assistance, or if you wish for your profile to be deleted, please contact our friendly and experienced Helpdesk on hello@surpassport.com.
The App

What to do in an emergency
In case of emergency call 112/999 or use VHF Channel 16 and ask for the Coast Guard.
If you see anybody in danger or think they are in danger in the sea, in the water or along the coast - call as soon as you can.

What to do if you are struggling in the water
Remain calm. Float in the water. Don't fight the current as you will waste valuable energy.

Going to the Beach, Lake or other inland waterways
If going to the coast, check the weather and tides using the Safety on the Water app so you don’t get cut off.
You should only swim at lifeguarded beaches or waterways, as shown in the app.
Always be aware of rip currents or moving water in rivers and NEVER use inflatable water toys on open waters.

What to do if you are going out on the water on any sort of vessel
If you plan to go out on the water on any sort of vessel, we refer to that as being 'afloat'. When you do go on on the water, always remember to:
- keep in touch
- plan your trip carefully and never go out alone
- let someone ashore know where you are going and when you will be back
- carry a means of communication for raising the alarm should you get in to difficulty

Safety on the Water is an initiative set up by the Marine Safety Working Group with the aim of promoting water safety. The group is made up of statutory bodies, search & rescue organisations and water users.
